Hand Arm Vibration (HAV)
Hand-Arm Vibration Awareness Training
Hand-arm vibration (HAV) is a widespread hazard for employees in many industries and occupations. Hand-arm vibration exposure at work can arise from the use of hand-held power tools (such as grinders or hammer drills), as well as hand-guided machinery (such as lawnmowers and plate compactors) and hand-fed machines (such as pedestal grinders). Prolonged and regular exposure to this vibration can affect the operator’s health and cause Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS).

Course content:
This hand-arm vibration awareness training will cover the following topics:
- The legislation and regulations that employees working with hand-held electrical tools must follow, and why this legislation is important.
- The hazards associated with hand-arm vibration, such as hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS).
- How to implement control measures in order to prevent injuries due to hand-arm vibration hazards.
- How to reduce vibration exposure in the workplace.
Ideal candidates:
Our training course has been designed for employees who have a duty to manage the risks of hand-arm vibration at work, as well as those who use vibrating equipment or tools or hold components being worked on by machinery.
Vibration Regulations
Employees can control the risks from vibration and protect others from ill-health by complying with the Vibration Regulations. This means that employers will need to assess the risks from vibration, and consequently create a plan to decide how to control them.
Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome is a health condition that is commonly caused by the use of hand-held electrical tools. Such tools could include chainsaws, grinding equipment and high torque wrenches. Holding components that are being worked on by machines might also put employees at risk of HAVs. Our Hand Arm Vibration course explains more about identifying the hazards associated with vibration exposure, and the control measures that can reduce the risks.
